Tucker Redding, SJ

JESUIT.
Get to know the Jesuits:

In August of 2011 I began the biggest adventure of my life by joining the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). During my time as a Jesuit I have travelled more than I have in my life, met wonderful people, and gained a myriad of new experiences. This page highlights some of my experiences as a Jesuit.

A major work of the Jesuits is education, where they have the opportunity to form others. I hope to broaden the worldview of those I teach and help them to see the good in the world as well as to challenge what is unjust in it.

Education

Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas - Dallas, TX

For a period of time in Jesuit formation referred to as "regency," I worked full time at this Jesuit school. I worked in both in our Advancement Department and as a faculty member.

Video Production Specialist (2017 - 2019)

This position was created when I was hired at Jesuit Dallas. The Video Production Specialist is a member of the Communications team, which is housed in the Advancement Department of the school. My job was to create video content to promote the school. This included admissions materials, event promotion and recap, and videos to highlight specific programs and departments. I regularly captured events in the school. I was involved in every aspect of the video production process, including concepts, story creation, filming, production, and editing. I worked with a variety of cameras, audio recording equipment, lighting, stabilizers, and drones. While in this job I also introduced digital signage to our school facilities and I was in charge of creating and managing the content on these screens.

Theology Teacher (2017 - 2019)

While I was working on the Communication team at Jesuit Dallas, I was also a faculty member. I taught two sections of Freshman Theology during one school year and two sections of Sophomore Theology during my second year. Freshman Theology primarily focused on introducing the students to scripture, from Genesis through the Gospels. Sophomore Theology covered a variety of topics, including Christology, Church History, and Catholic Social Teaching. These topics also allowed for a continuation of scripture study with Acts of the Apostles and the Epistles of Saint Peter.

De Smet Jesuit High School - St. Louis, MO

Board of Trustee Member (2014-2017)

Serving as a board member of a Jesuit high school has given me greater insight into what it takes to run a school and the many people who help a school succeed. I helped review and approve school budgets and other plans. At this time the school is working on rebranding. This process challenges us to think about the unique identity of the school in the saturated private school market of St. Louis.

Theology Teacher and Campus Ministry (2012)

I spent two months working at De Smet during my first years as a Jesuit. I taught three sections of freshman theology, which included introducing the students to the Jesuits and Ignatian spirituality. I also worked in campus ministry, including starting a sophomore prayer group and staffing a Kairos retreat.

St. Louis University - St. Louis, MO

Instructor’s Assistant (2016)

As a graduate student, I helped with a new course: Social Justice Communication. This course examined social justice issues through the lens of communication practices. I helped design the syllabus and presented on some of the topics.

Campion College - Kingston, Jamaica

Teacher and Campus Ministry (2013)

I worked for three months at one of the top high schools in the Caribbean. I taught four sections of "Christian Living," which introduced the students to issues of morality. I also helped the school host its first Kairos retreat.

Cristo Rey High School - Kansas City, MO

Teacher and Campus Ministry (2012)

For a period of two months, I taught a class of sophomore theology and was available to students in campus ministry.

Social Ministry

Jesuits have been called to the margins of society to learn from the people that have been forced to make a home there. It is from these experiences that I hope to work with and for others to make a more just world.

Volunteers meet with clients one on one at the Documentation Assistance Program.

Winter Inn Outreach at St. Francis Xavier Church - St. Louis, MO

Coordinator - (2013-Present)

The Winter Inn is part of a larger organization that seeks to provide emergency shelter to people experiencing homelessness during the winter months. As a coordinator, I train volunteers, oversee volunteers during setup and operation of the shelter, and review how the organization functions.

Documentation Assistance Program at St. Francis Xavier Church - St. Louis, MO

Volunteer (2013-Present)

This organization works with individuals who need assistance obtaining a birth certificate and/or state ID, without which they can not obtain many crucial resources. I work with clients one-on-one to help them figure out what they need to get these important documents. I also perfomed evauluations of the organization and presented my findings based on scholarship regarding service organizations and compassionate communication.

Pastoral Care

Jesuits also have the opportunity to acompany people in a variety of situations. I hope to be able to lend a hand, ear, or shoulder to anyone who needs them.

Acadiana Therapeutic Riding Organization - Karencro, LA

Volunteer (2012)

ATRO is an organization that provides therapy for people with physical, cognitive, and social disabilities by caring for and riding horses. I walked along side the horses to ensure the safety of the person riding, as well as to provide encouragement and support.

Providence Hospital - Kansas City, KS

Chaplain Intern (2012)

I spent two months working at this hospital. I would regularly join one of the four staff chaplains on their rounds. Each of them had a different style, which helped me to learn different ways of providing care. Once I helped a chaplain talk to a woman who was deaf by using a rudamentary knowledge of sign language.
